Product Description
Want to be the envy of your paddling friends? Get the Ranger, the Alpacka staff favorite for the most comfortable and spacious river trip packraft. Paco Pad? Check. Pillows? Check Fresh food? Check. Dog or Kiddo? Check. Moose?!? Not recommended, but its been done! The Ranger has unmatched carrying capacity for a single person packraft.
The Ranger features a large volume hull with a center panel stern and late rise bow, which maximizes carrying capacity but remains small enough to comfortably be paddled by one person. A full-length inflatable self-bailing floor, plus a paddler seat and inflatable backrest, will keep you high and dry and quickly drain any waves that come over the side. The 59-inch interior length provides plenty of room to stretch out your legs and put your kiddo, dog, or bulky cargo at the bow. At 12 pounds, its still easy to carry in several miles and won’t break your weight limits on a fly-in trip.
Recommended Uses
Flatwater:
Our most luxurious one-person flatwater packraft, the Ranger will carry everything you need for doing your river trip in style. This makes the Ranger ideal for more leisurely trips where you want to spend more time relaxing and enjoying your time on the water, especially fishing, hunting, or family trips. We recommend the Caribou or Expedition if speed and headwind performance is more important.
Lightwater:
Similar to flatwater, the Ranger is the most comfortable and spacious lightwater packraft in our lineup. For its size and carrying capacity, its still remarkably easy to maneuver with one paddler and the self-bailing floor will quickly drain out any waves that come over the side. Experienced paddlers will also be able to paddle the occasional more difficult whitewater rapid, but other more whitewater focused models are recommended for extended whitewater. For the smallest lighwater rivers like mountain headwaters, we recommend a smaller and more nimble packraft like the Expedition or Gnarwhal.
Hunting:
The Ranger is the ultimate solo hunting packraft for deer, sheep, goats, elk and similar sized game. Its also a fantastic waterfowl hunting packraft as it can comfortably carry you, your dog, and a bag of decoys. For moose, we recommend the Forager but the Ranger can carry an entire moose for short sections of flatwater close to shore.
Fishing:
The Ranger is our hands-down favorite solo river fishing packraft. It has enough space to store your rods on the sides—we recommend facing your tips to the stern—and your gear at your feet, but its still easy to maneuver in tight sections. The self-bailing floor is ideal for waders as mud, sand, and gravel will get washed away through the holes in the floor. For two people, consider the Rendezvous or Forager.
Family:
The Ranger is perfect with a dog or a kiddo! We love having kiddos sit at the bow and either face back so you can entertain them, or they can turn around and kneel to watch what’s coming up next. For carrying multiple kiddos and dogs, we recommend the extra space of the Forager. But we still prefer the Ranger for single kiddos and dogs.
How Does It Compare?
Ranger vs. Mule
On the river, we prefer the Ranger to the Mule for almost any trip. It has more space to stretch out, more cargo capacity, and is ideal for carrying a dog or child. The Mule has the advantage off the river as its lighter and more packable for hiking in or out of your adventure.
Ranger vs. Forager
Many customers choose the extra capacity of the Forager because it allows them to carry two adults or multiple kids and pets, or if you want to hunt moose. But the Ranger is the easier boat to paddle for the solo paddler with only one kiddo, one dog, and hunting deer, elk, or sheep. The Ranger is also much more packable for hiking in and out of your trip.

Cargo Fly
Our innovative Cargo Fly internal storage system comes standard on the Ranger. The Cargo Fly features an airtight zipper installed in the stern of the boat to allow you to store your gear inside the tubes. The system provides drier and more secure gear storage and improved paddling performance due to a lower center of gravity.
Internal Dry Bags may be purchased separately and are designed to work with the Cargo Fly system. The bags clip in place along each side of the tubes with a side release buckle and allow for better organization and weight balance than placing the contents of your pack loose inside the Cargo Fly. They also act as additional balanced air chambers to make it easier to get to shore in the event of a puncture.
Specifications
Specifications
*Weight includes all components except inflation bag, repair kit, and internal dry bags for Cargo Fly.
**Packed size is a reference measurement based on folding each lengthwise edge of the boat to the center and rolling from the bow. There are many other methods of rolling and folding the boats that will result in a different packed size that may be more or less efficient for packing depending on the situation.
***Max Capacity is the maximum total weight (paddlers and cargo) that the boat can reasonably carry in flatwater under ideal conditions. Actual capacity for any given trip will vary widely based on the paddler’s skill and water conditions. Please review our weight carrying capacity guide for further details.
