Product Description
Sheri has been working on a packraft sea kayak for over 15 years, longer than any other Alpacka design. We've chased a lot of good ideas and a lot of dead ends over this time, but the wait was worth it. The Aleutian offers the closest thing you can get to a traditional sea kayak for performance, but in a travel friendly inflatable package.
The Aleutian combines speed, efficiency, and stability in a sleek, advanced slender baffled hull with Cargo Fly internal storage for multi-day adventures. Its performance is the flatwater equivalent of the Valkyrie, delivering smooth tracking and nimble handling in challenging open water conditions. Outfitted with 4-point thigh straps, foam backband, full-length inflatable floor pad, lace-in seat, spray deck, Cargo Fly, and removable skeg—the Aleutian offers comfort, control, and versatility for all skill levels.
The Aleutain isn't going to replace your traditional sea kayak. Its going to expand the places you can go sea kayaking because you can easily throw it in your checked baggage, on a small plane, or a water taxi to do more trips while saving money on travel costs.
Note: High pressure is key on the Aleutian and requires a Pack-a-Pump to fully pressurize the boat and eliminate creasing at your hips. We also recommend a small dry bag with emergency equipment or your day essentials for a footbrace.
Recommended Uses
Sea Kayaking
The Aleutian is the perfect travel sea kayak for paddlers exploring coastlines and large lakes. If you are fortunate enough to live near great sea kayaking, the Aleutian won't replace your hard shell. But if you need to fly, you are stuck with costs and limits of going through a rental shop. The Aleutian will allow you to go anywhere in the world that you want and still have a performance sea kayak to get out on the water when you hit your destination.
Open Water
The Aleutian is the only packraft in our lineup adequate for open water paddling. However, open water can be as committing and dangerous as Class V whitewater and should only be attempted by experienced expert level paddlers with proper safety equipment and backup.
Large Rivers
While the Aleutian is a bit long to be maneuverable on small rivers, its a great option for down river adventures on large flatwater rivers.
How Does it Compare?
Aleutian vs. Chinook
Between the Aleutian and Chinook, choose the Aleutian if your adventures are more focused on traditional sea kayaking routes and locations. Places like Prince William Sound, the San Juans, Norway, Patagonia's Fjords, or Glacier Bay. Choose the Chinook if you want a fast flatwater packraft with versatility for hiking, smaller rivers, and more backcountry travel where you plan to hike with your boat.
Aleutian vs. Zephyr
The Aleutian is closest in performance to a traditional sea kayak, while the Zephyr is closest in performance to a traditional recreational kayak. The Aleutian is better suited for coastal paddling in colder climates while the Zephyr is better for day trips in protected warmer waters.

Materials
Proprietary TPU Coated 400d Vectran hull and 840d nylon floor. This is the last of our 400d Vectran supply and we chose it for its superior rigidity. Vectran is more tear resistant but also more prone to small scrapes and abrasions than nylon, so the Aleutian should be handled with care around coral, sharp rocks and when landing on rocky beaches.

Build Configurations
Flatwater Spray Deck

The Aleutian comes standard with the Aleutian Spray Deck, which keeps the boat dry in waves and spray. The Spray Deck features a large kayak style cockpit and includes a one-piece PEX skirt rim. The Aleutian Spray Deck has multiple strap plates for lashing gear and attaching a Bow Bag. Spray skirts sold separately.
Cargo Fly
A standard option on the Aleutian, the Cargo Fly is the ultimate packraft gear storage solution. It features an airtight zipper installed in the stern of the boat to allow you to load your gear inside the tubes. The system provides drier and more secure gear storage and improved paddling performance due to a lower center of gravity. The Cargo Fly is perfect for expeditions, performance, and keeping your gear dry in any conditions.
Small Internal Dry Bags may be purchased separately and are designed to work with the Cargo Fly system. The bags clip in place along each side of the tubes with a side release buckle and allow for better organization and weight balance than placing the contents of your pack loose inside the Cargo Fly. They also act as additional balanced air chambers to make it easier to get to shore in the event of a puncture.
Weight Capacity
The Aleutian is designed for performance. The Aleutian is ideal for paddlers up to 240lbs, but it has a relatively narrow hull design so it will be a tighter fit for paddlers with wider hips.
Note: Fully pressurizing Aleutian with the Pack-A-Pump until there are no creases when you sit in the boat is necessary for full performance.
Sizing & Specifications
*The Aleutian is designed for a true to size fit with enough knee bend to engage the thigh straps, but keep your legs more relaxed for better performance. Paddlers over 6'3" or under 5'4" may have trouble getting a good fit. The Aleutian is one size model and is optimized for a 5'7"- 6'1" paddler.
*Due to the handmade nature of our packrafts and natural variances in weights between different colors and production runs in our fabrics, all weights and dimensions are averages and will vary from boat to boat.
